New murals are going up in the district! In partnership with 916 Ink, the California Arts Council, and Sacramento State University are proud to announce the kick-off to our Franklin District public art project in South Sacramento on Franklin Blvd. These dozen murals will represent the culture, heritage, history and future of our district. The murals will also help graffiti abatement and deterrent, increase foot traffic via mural/taco tours.
The project is expected to be completed this fall – with artwork completed along Franklin Blvd from 12th Ave to Fruitridge Rd. The art celebrates the cultural history of the Blvd with large scale reproductions of posters made by the Royal Chicano Air Force, as well as custom installations created by local artists and former alumni of CSU Sacramento.
We have also garnered $25k from California Endowment for three more murals that will be designed by our community to promote health and equity. More information coming soon!
